Months, Flowers (2005)

Basho's Haiku captivates the theme of nature and time. Objects and animals are meticulously selected to represent specific atmosphere and season. The result is poetry created within a delicate structure. My interpretation features twelve poems to represent twelve months of the Japanese year. I let the content 'build' the illustration, interpreting the literal meaning in a stylised manner inspired by organic morphology which feels natural for the genre. The book's colour spectrum is influenced by Haiku colours according to season and by colour combination in traditional kimono. A limited edition artist's book, Japanese-fold hand stitched, 8-colour silkscreen print. Published by VSUP Publishing House. The Most Beautiful Book of the Year 2005 (CZ): Commendation, Runner-up (2005)
